Corroborated by researchers at the National Institute of Oceanography, it cannot be rebuffed under any circumstances. However, the picture is not bleak as one may think. If we take into consideration the rich heritage of Goa, we find that it has immense potential.
Goa is undoubtedly one of the star destinations for the tourists where swimming is considered to be the favourite leisurely activity. It attracts loads of enthusiasts delving deeper into its fluttering waves. But it is this activity that is conducted on Kerala Goa’s beaches has come under threat with the recent report that claims to pose health risks. If it remains untamed, the furious contamination can lead to major health risks. That means it has the potential to go beyond damaging the Indian tourism and inflict health problems on to the general masses. Primarily the damage has been due to unchecked waste in the sewage. The worst part is that the levels of contamination are alarming as put forth by Mr M Namaiah, one of the scientists at the institute.
The news might affect 2.6 million holidaymakers who visit round the year. In particular it is the Brits that seem to be affected. Taking into consideration the statistics we find that Brits prefer Goa on their India Tour as it proves cheap while offering an affordable exotic getaway.
What’s more, the news has also provided setback to the Indian Government, which was planning to construct marinas. In fact the plan of doing so was to attract the wealthy tourists on yachts. However, in wake of this report, which has been substantiated by a governmental agency itself, it seems cumbersome for the Indian government to carry the construction plane.
Well, things are not that depressing and gloomy. As we know that Goa is highly equipped with rich cultural heritage, it is important to note that this Indian state carries unprecedented potential to attract tourists without any hassles even if its beaches are not fit for swimming.
As Goa tourism runs parallel to Maharashtra and Kerala, development of heritage tourism in the region can result in huge benefits, believed by Narendra Jadhav, one of the members, Planning Commission of India in charge of Goa.
